Okay, it's an ugly brutalist structure, but a great collection of the works of Barbara Hepworth and contemporaries like Henry Moore. I visited for the centenary of the publication of André Breton's "Surrealist Manifesto" and to see works by René Magritte, Yves Tanguy, Max Ernst, Salvador Dali, Jean Arp and Leonora Carrington. Great stuff. Café good. Shop average.

Way too expensive for the size of the place.

Been wanting to visit for a while and the exhibition by Louise Giovanelli proved the perfect opportunity. Superb artist and fascinating work. Obviously, the centre of attraction is local sculpture by Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. Could have done without the surreal exhibition in the next room but that is merely subjective opinion.

Very boring, and not worth the over priced parking, and with entry at £25 for 2 pensioners, for a family the cost would be prohibitive

Lovely gallery and impressive collection of Hepworth’s sculpture and unfinished work. Liked the exhibition of surreal works including a Dali and two Magrittes. Annoyed by the very high ticket prices for non Wakefield residents. I don’t think the exhibits were worth the extremely high prices.

We visited recently and had a good poke around the excellent surrealist exhibition. The building itself is a bit of a marvel and the cafe is well worth a visit as well.

Just back from a splendid visit to this gallery. Knocked out by how well the art is displayed and how welcoming the staff were. Special mention and thanks to Nigel for a fascinating talk and tour of the exhibition. He was incredibly knowledgable about the artwork and I thoroughly recommend booking his free 30 minute tour.
